College Profile

The South Travancore Hindu College was established and registered as an institution on 9th January 1952. It aims to promote higher education in South Travancore, otherwise called as Kanyakumari District. The humble beginnings of our institution marked the affiliation that was granted on 14th March 1952 by the University of Travancore. The foundation stone was laid by Sri.A.Ramaswamy Mudaliar, the Vice- Chancellor on 7th April 1952. The institution was inaugurated on 11th July, 1952 by Sri P.G.N.Unnithan, President, Travancore Devaswom Board at a special function which was presided by Kavimoni Sri S.Desigavinayagam Pillai.

Our institution’s growth as an Intermediate College in 1952, as the South Travancore Hindu College which rapidly grew as a degree College in 1955 and as a Postgraduate College in 1956. The institution’s affiliation with the University of Madras took place in 1957 with the reorganization of the Indian States. It was then affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University in 1966 and then a final affiliation with Manonmaniam Sundaranar University in 1990.

Our institution has previously achieved a premier status of being a prestigious college which is re-accredited with ‘A’ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Committee of the UGC. Our institution has also achieved a rank band of 151-200 for the 2022 College category framed by the National Institutional Ranking Framework by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

Our institution offers a Choice Based Credit System with Under Graduate Courses for various disciplines like B.A/ B.Sc/ B.Com and Post Graduate Courses for disciplines like M.A/ M.Sc/ M.Com. Further, Research studies like M.Phil and Ph.D for Arts and Science disciplines are offered in our institution. The research departments of our institution are nurtured with various research activities to raise the academic standards of our institution.
